Re: Vertglas gel coat system

Before I found this website I used Vertglas. Just last week I posted the final update on a thread I started where I got a ton of info from the guys about buffing out the gel. I don't think I will ever use Vertglas again.

Anyway, I had a 21' bowrider. I purchased a vertglass kit for about $75. It took me several passes with the scrubber and then with the polish coat, but it turned out really nice. From 100 feet back it looked showroom condition to me. The gel was a deep glossy maroon color. Before vertglas it was very chalky and always looked like it had a coat of white dust on it. :(

So yes, the stuff works. I kept my boat coverd and parked under a shelter. 2 years later is was needing a coat, but I let it slide. The third year I did it again useing the same kit. It took me just a little less work, but again it came out fabulous.

Again, after the results I got about following the instructions from these iboat gurus on compounding and buffing, I won't ever use vertglass again.

Re: Vertglas gel coat system

From what I've learned in the last few weeks on iboats... I feel comfortable restoring (buffing) out my gel. Whereas before I was just looking for a quick and simple fix.... you know some kind of magic wax that breathes new life into it.

Yeah it worked, but back to what I said before... "From what I've learned in the last few weeks on iboats"... I would hate it if I ever had to buff that stuff off, if for some reason I needed to get down to the gel coat.

OH YES! Does it ever build up "coats". That's the whole principle of the product.

Wash, scrub oxidation, wash, first restore coat, second restore coat, third restore coat.

I used 3M see photo below I took just after I got started. You can see some of the rough results in the background.

As Cap tells ya now before and after...

There is NO magic wand with faded Gel restoration. Just Real hard work to bring back that ol shine.

I could make bucks relabeling a can of silicone spray with "magic fiberglass resto" .. but.. It wont last .. :)

YD.
