So I'm replacing one string on my boat, one is perfect the other rotted out. I already remove it. I'll be using epoxy since I already bought it but confused as to what type fiberglass cloth to use and how many layers, I have read so much on the subject that now I'm lost. If anyone can offer some advice i would really appreciated.

You could put this all in your Four Winns 190 thread . . .

Some pictures would also help . .

Anyway, Most folks use 1708 cloth for structural work. It is a stitched cloth with strands running in several directions, so it takes stress well.

for tabbing to the hull . . .One layer would be adequate, but two layers would be even better.

You don't need 1708 fabric when using epoxy I'd recommend using 2 layers of 8.5 oz e glass more strength in this layup

Or you can use 1700, has no matt backing. Not needed when using EEEEEEEEEEEEpoxy.
