very rough idle

I have a 1986 mercruiser 140, 4 cylinder I/O 181 cubic inch and the idle is very rough I put new spark plug wires on and distributer cap. the engine runs smooth after I warm it up for 10 minutes but hesitates when you punch it. new plugs also.

Sounds more like a Carb. Issue......<br /><br />Running Rough when Cold sounds like the Choke isn't quite Right,.........<br />And,.....<br />The Hesitation Later sounds like the Acc.Pump.......

How do I fix the choke problem?<br />and what is the Acc. Pump and how do I fix that.<br />thanks mucho.

spin the choke box around if its electric. the black round thing on the side of the carb there is listings on the housing to tell you which way to go. when you move the butterflies theres a little lever on the bottom of the carb that plunges the pump, and squirts fuel in to the carb bores. hold the choke open and look down in the carb. go from an idle position to wide open. should see fuel squirting in there. engine off and spark arester off. rebuild the carb if no fuel squirts
