If I'm working on my motor and want to run it in a reservoir, is this the proper way to do it?

As you can see there is a tell tale so the motor is being cooled and I also have it in neutral. the water comes just to the top of the A/V plate.

Am I harming the engine in any way by running it like this?

Thanks!

No not harming it at all. As long as the water intake is submerged and you have a tell tale then it is fine. Just don't rev up the engine any higher than a fast idle.

cheers!

I would make sure the water is at least 3" over the av plate, that is where the water pump is. The water pump does not actually suck water up.

Looks good to me. Make sure the water intakes are flooded.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm only going to run it like this over the winter and whenever I'm working on it (it runs very well, so I'm not planning anything).

Also, the water coming out of the tell tale was warmer than the water in the bucket, which is an indication to me that it was cooling the motor.

I personally would run it deeper to be sure the pump is completely submerged...not just the intake. As mentioned, a few inches of water above the AV/Cav plate.

As long as it's cooling..it will warm the water up pretty quick in the tub though so watch for that. Also, are you running premix? Doesn't look and sound like it's getting much oil, but maybe that's a lighting factor.

I'm running 48:1. I think it's b/c it was in a garage, and also b/c the exhaust wasn't underwater.
