they are notoriously hard to find and often the plates are missing or covered up. Hopefully it also shows on your registration. You do have registration, right?

I've heard of trailers stamping the number into the trailer, too. I'm considering doing that for mine. We have permanent registration but trailers with brakes have to be inspected.

Yes, I believe that the number is stamped on the metal frame ( somewhere ) in case the ID and capacity label falls off, etc.

Re: Vin #

I just bought one and the one on the sticker on my tongue was completely faded. However, I found that where the tongue attached to the rest of the trailer, the two "pipes" were open and inside each side was a VIN sticker. However, that one was faded too, but I think I have it. How long should it be? Mine is 16 digits.

Re: Vin #

Thank you guys for the information. I'll check my trailer again for the 5th time. THe guy I bought the trailer from didn't have the original
registration papers. He never bothered registering it since it was still good for another 2 years. The registration is now expiring next month and my local DMV is giving me a hard time wanting a letter of affidavit from the original owner and my seller that the registration papers got lost..
I can't even take my boat out to have fun without risking a ticket from any law enforcement officer that might pull me over..
