So I'm down on the docks and see a nice looking boat: it turns out to be an early 80's 24' Trophy with a teak Alaska bulkhead built in Wash state. The guy on the dock says they're great boats (contrary to the opinions some say on this forum about Bayliners) built for only a few years. According to him they were built strong, had an economical Volvo outdrive, and make a perfect PacNW fishing and cruising boat. He'd been searching for months and finally located and purchased one similar to the one I was looking at.
Is this a few geezers' foolish dream or are these pretty good boats to put on a possible list? Anyone have definitive info? The one I saw was well maintained, and the prices appear to be well in excess of what they must have sold for when new. It wasn't for sale, but what if???

Re: Vintage Bayliner Trophys

Maintained is the key. The "Alaska Bulkhead" was designed to be warm and strong in areas where bad weather is the norm. There are many of these era boats in everyday use here and, contrary to board opinion, are holding up well and taking people fishing every day. They are in big demand here, this limits the availability. My better half and I will be traveling to Oregon/Washington next spring with the intentions of identifying and purchase of just such a boat. There are other candidates, but this type of Trophy is up on the list.
Kev_Alask***

Kev, I've since gone online for a search of same, and see none for sale. Bayliner did make 26' Explorer with the same bulkhead and a couple are here in Portland. I'll look at them later this month. In the meantime, do some searches; according to the geezer I talked to, they're hard to find.
