G'day All,
I'm a newbie to vintage Evinrude outboards. My main motor is a '67 60HP SportFour with adjustable low speed jets and fixed high speed jets. This carb needs a rebuild.
I recently acquired a '64 60HP SportFour that has a carb with adjustable high speed and low speed jets. This carb would need a rebuild as well.

Which is the better carb? All my boating is at, or very near to sea level.

Cheers Will.

Gee, adjusting the high speed jets is a real PIA, and can be dangerous. That is likely why no modern production carbs have adjustable Hi jets. Stick with the original carbs, IMHO.

Besides, nobody ever got those V-4 adjustable jets dialed in right anyway. Part of the reason for the gas hog reputation.

Thanks Guys, I'll rebuild the '67 model carb then!
Appreciate the feedback. I guess by 'dangerous' Chris1956 you mean if engine runs at high speed too lean pistons will melt!
I used to ride two stroke motorcycles :)

Cheers William.

My definition of dangerous would be standing in the stern, facing aft, not knowing what's coming ahead, or paying attention, and possibly falling overboard. With any luck, the driver may come back and get you.

But I guess there also are additional ways of looking for an accident.

I am with F_R on that. Luckily my Fat-Fifty would only go 27MPH at full throttle, so adjusting the hi-speed jets wasn't super dangerous. Try adjusting the high speed jets on my speedboat at 50+MPH.
