ok so i was wanting to get some opinions on what everyone thinks of marine vinyl flooring. my boat has that crappy blue carpet through out (1977 glastron gt 150) and i dont like it the guy i bought the boat from said he just replaced it. but he didnt do a very good job and its ugly... and also how does that stuff goin in.. is there glue involved or spray tack or does it have something that peels off the back like a bumpersticker? thanks for everyones input in advance!! the stuff seems pretty inexpensive....

Vinyl + water = slippery. Not the best idea I have heard.

Re: vinyl flooring opinions...

it works just fine for boats.....yes its glued down....just like the carpet....

it is primarilly used in a boat where there is lots of fishing going on because of the easy clean of the product.

this product has now been out dated because of the use of gellcoat in newer boats.

if you do not fish ......and have girls in your boat....id suggest to replace the carpet.....girls like it,.

by the way.....getting that old ratty carpet up is gonna be a real chore.....it doesnt come easy....no matter how ratty it is

cheers

Re: vinyl flooring opinions...

excellent advice... thank you! i hope to have lots of girls on the boat =) but i will be using it mainly for fishing. because its a glastron gt150 its got room for both yes its old but i think its a rough diamond (as opposed to a diamond in the rough =) bare minimum i will enact the flip flops at all times rule.... lol... but honestly cost in relation to functionality seems good... but if you know of some better carpet let me know please!!! this crap sux....

Photo looks like nautolex marine flooring.
Used in many boats back in the 60's and 70's.
Kind of making a come back in newer boats.
Its what I'm using in my current project.

Best place to buy it has been here.

I used the decko dot flooring in my last project.

The decko dot has a grippy rubbery feel, but seems to stain and hold dirt, also hard on the knees if you kneel on it.

You could paint non-skid, and have snap-in carpet made for your boat. Best of both... Durabak is a good product. I used it in my 1999 Bayliner project link below.

I just finished my 22' StarCraft with Vinyl and it looks and works great. I purchased the vinyl and glue from Cabela's. I bought the vinyl with the knobs so it is not slippery at all. Cost is about $24 per 3 running feet 72" wide. Glue is about $30 a gallon. I had a friend that installs carpet put it in for $50. We do a lot of fishing on Lake Michigan and it will be much easier to clean. Go for it.

Re: vinyl flooring opinions...

i had a grady-white that had a floor covering called Nautolex. I pulled it out and replaced it with Nautolex again because it made cleaning it a breeze, and if someone dropped a fish on the floor it it didn't stink for a wk afterward. All boat covers leak some water on the floor when raining and having carpet soak it up and get smelly just doesn't work for me. The Nautolex has a "texture" made into it so it is not slippery. I would rip out the carpet and put in the vinyl, i think you will be happier. I bought the material and glue at a marine store, it is easy to install
