Hey all,

just wondering what everyone who’s went vinyl has used to hold it down. I saw on Maridecks website that if I use epoxy, which I will to waterproof the wood, then I have to use their 102 which is a solvent based glue instead of the water base, which is 100 bucks a gallon. Anyone use something different and have lasting results?

Are you installing some sort of marine decking vinyl? You may use a indoor-outdoor carpet adhesive. It is avail at home stores.

However, the decking of the boat needs to be waterproofed before any covering. Normally polyester resin and fiberglass cloth is used to water proof the deck.

fiberglass or aluminum boat?

if fiberglass, the deck needs to be glassed in for strength reasons. this will seal the deck

if its an aluminum deck, either use a good plywood to begin with and simply glue the vinyl down (will last a minimum of 20 years if you keep the boat covered and the water out of it. or seal the wood and use the adhesive they recommend.

I have used dap weld-wood adhesive from your local big box store.

Scott.

the boat is a 16 foot Crestliner. It’s aluminum. I just used BCX plywood to cut out all the floor sections. I’m going to seal it all with west coast marine epoxy.

I was just a little worried with the fact I read marideck recommends the chemical based adhesives if it’s been treated with epoxy.

I was curious if there was something that wasn’t 100 dollars a gallon which the boat may need 2-3 I’d assume. It’s a very rough estimate I’d assume.

thanks for your feedback!

Chris,

Im looking into installing Marideck vinyl on the newly cut wood that I’m replacing the old with. I bought BCX plywood and cut it, I’m going to pre drill the holes as well to help when I seal it with West Coast Marine epoxy to waterproof it, then from there I want to install the marideck vinyl but I just want to make sure I do it correctly. The website states to use chemical adhesive for wood and metal. I am going to put vinyl on the aluminum sides of the boat, and the wood floor sections. It’s just at 100 dollars a gallon that seems very steep.

thank you for your response.

Nate

if your using the west 105, dont use the fast hardener.

I would follow the recommendation of the manufacturer.
