I haven't really heard a whole lot about these boats. The only thing I know is that they are expensive, which generally means the quality is better.

However, I have run across a 1995 (first year for their bay model I believe), and it is inexpensive and appears to be in pretty good shape.

It has a notched transom, and it's 18'9" if I remember correctly. The blue book on it is $6600 without trailer, and with no options. The asking price is $2200 less then the blue book at $4400. It also includes a depth finder, trolling motor, new batteries, etc.
The engine is a Johnson 112spl, with low hours.

Any idea on the quality of the boats? Should the first year of production worry me like it does on cars? They have been building bowriders and runabouts forever, this is just their first year in bay boats (1995).

What kind of reputation do their ski/runabouts have?

Thanks!
Shawn

How expensive they will be depends a lot on the dealer. While I find a lot to like about VIP, "quality is better" is not on that list.

You're right, not a lot of posts on VIP out there. Here are a few -

Trailer Boats Boards » Boats » VIP info needed

The Hull Truth Boating Forum .. Boaters Forum .. Anybody own a Kenner Rolled Edge XV

As with any used boat, the main concern is what condition this particular boat is in. More than the brand name.

Kelly Cook

If you can get your hands on an archive (Aug. 2003) of Boating magazine you can read their review of a current model. The article is called 5 Alive where they compared a VIP Bay Stealth 2230 boat to 4 other CC boats. Nice looking boat ........but to the tune of $30800 w power and trailer.
