I am thinking of installing a meter to monitor my battery condition. What is the difference between a volt meter and a batter condition meter, and should they be wired directly to the battery?

Re: VOLT METER / BATTERY CONDITION METER

volt meter tells you how many volts the battery has not how much energy it has,
A condition meter if I am reading you right is called an energy meter. It will tell you how much power you have left in your battery.

I have one of those on my boat to monitor both batteries and I would not do with out it.. At the flip of a switch I can tell how much power I have left in each battery, If I need to charge one off the motor I can switch to that battery from the perko switch.
yes it is wired directly to the battery.
