volt output

what should the volt output on my1986 50hp evinrude be when running (15-20 mph). it is putting out around 12.5-12.8 now. if it needs something, is it something I can myself.

It should be 13.5 or more, better would be in the 14 range, so it's not working, most likely a bad rectifier

^^agree. $30 - $40 part, and easy to replace -- also pretty easy to burn out, unfortunately. I did one in about a month ago by reversing polarity while hooking up the engine -- immediate effect. Disconnecting battery while running will do it, also running on a badly discharged battery. But reversing polarity is the most effective method....
