Hey, guys having a non starting issue. I have a 1989 2.3 omc, what happenes here is my boat sat for a month, went to go start it and she was dead. So I put the battery charger on it (built in) and came back out about a hour later and went to start itand still dead. checked the battery and noticed that the battery had swelled up and leaked everywhere. So I replaced the battery, cleaned everything up and she cranked and no start. so I check spark, no spark. checked the coil, thought maybe fried the coil. Replaced the coil still nothing. Decided to do a complete tune up cap rotor condenser points plugs. Replaced it all. Went to fire her up, still no start, no spark. checked wiring to coil all seemed okay. But did notice with key off I have 12 volts at coil...... shoudnt be there.
My question I guess would be, could my battery have been shorted out from the alt? I cleaned all ground and the feed wires, so I know its not a power or ground short or open. I removed the main rubber connector cleaned any corrosion or gunk that had collected over the years. I also checked the kill switch and it was operating as designed.
Any help at this point would be great
Thanks in advance
