Hey guys..

After the ground came off my battery while running a couple of weeks ago.. I have made some repairs. I had to replace TB IV module, and pick up sensor. Boat fires right up now.

While running, I was showing 16V+ on the volt gauge. I would imaging the regulator needs to be replaced now. Where is this located? The battery has gotten much weaker after a day of running. Also, how many wires are supposed to be coming out of the alternator?

Your voltage reg. is probably fried. You should never see 16 + from it.

What engine are you running? What is the configuration of your charging system?

The regulator is in the alternator. Take the alternator to your local starter/alternator shop and have it checked out and repaired. You might be able to replace the regulator, but you also need to find out why the regulator went bad to begin with.

Hey Guys,

Its a 454 Merc / Carb with Bravo 1. With that ground coming off, it fried a bunch of stuff. Boat is running great, but I am sure the reg is bad. What would I be looking at cost wise for the Voltage Regulator replacement?

Thanks guys!

Ask the people you take it to, or call them first. Without knowing what all is wrong, it's really hard to say how much. then there is the thing about location. It might be cheaper here than where ever you are.

In Fort Lauderdale.. I am sure there are a bunch of Alternator shops. Also, it looks like I can get a new Sierra unit for $170, which may be a better option than replacing the Regulator in the current unit.

Is the Regulator the same as the rectifier?

Thanks,

Joe

no, the rectifier changes the ac to dc ,the regulator regulates the output to 14.6
