After last season of boating along the North Carolina Coast I performed some engine maintenance on my 20 fish & ski. Due to really high voltage, and some fried yellow and red wire connections, I had changed out my voltage regulator on my 2001 Mercury 125hp 2 stroke.
Now, this boat has only been out once this season, so while on the trailer, the boat starts and runs fine, but I am getting a sporadic voltage reading off the battery terminals. This is usually in the range of 15.5-16.5v, but it really bounces around to low then even a bit higher. While doing this last week I did get a constant 13.2v, but have not duplicated since. On advice, I did a voltage check and tested the positive post on the starter solenoid to engine ground and saw 20-22v bouncing.
I have 2 batteries,1 tested and 1 new, so I dont think it is them and with a battery switch there shouldn't be an elec. drain occurring.
Any other quick checks or advice? thanks
