Voltmeter and Gen Connection?

My voltmeter connects to the A connector on the stater switch and then also connects to the S on the Aternator? I just put a new Alt on and it now does not have a S connector output (alt). What am I supposed to connect to get a good reading on my voltmeter?

What is an "A" connector on the starter switch and "S" connector on the alternator. Never heard of those connections.<br />Is this the standard voltmeter for your instruments? <br />What are we talking about OMC, Volvo, Mercruiser, and what year????<br /><br />If it's a standard insturment panel voltmeter, come off the "I" (Ignition. Purple wire) terminal of your start switch. No reason to connect anything to the alternator.
