This boat had 60 hours on it and is 6 years old. It appears the teeth broke off of one of the gears, then bound the u-joint assembly and bearing carrier; breaking the carrier and scarring the journal (if that's what you would call it) in the upper gear housing where the bearing carrier and u-joint assemble are installed.
Can this be repaired or is another upper unit needed? The mechanic said this could not be fixed, but I wanted another opinion. We also are not sure what caused it. The drive didn't hit anything and was full of oil.
