Hi everyone,

im looking for a new carb to go with my Volvo AQ311B (5.7l V8). The engine is based on a GM 350Mag.

Reason is I think it is currently way overcarbed (Holley 4160 750CFM + it's running lean at WOT).

Can you recommend any specific carb (preferably by Holley)? Obviously I would love an out of the box solution where no re-jetting or exchange of the vacuum spring and/or power valve is necessary. Im currenty looking at the 0-80551 4160 600CFM.

Many thanks
James

I did find out that the carb that came with that engine has a Volvo Penta Product number: 856690 - which is the same as 855750. However, thats where I hit a dead end. Neither Volvo nor Holley could tell me what carburator that is.

Maybe that info helps?

Many thanks again to anyone breaking their head over this

If thats the carb that came on the motor, why not just have it rebuilt?

Hi, thanks for the input!

No, most defenetely this is not the stock carb. It has a street carb on which I quickly want to get rid off (Holley 3310-3 750cfm model 4160).

Pre-owner must have changed it.

Well then, I think you'll find there are not a lot of choices of marine Holley's built for a 350. And perhaps going with another Holley would make the install easier. Since you've got a squarebore intake, you may consider an edlebrock 1409 marine rated carb. They are very popular and economical. If it were me I would talk to a local carb shop, if you have one, and see about getting a carb flow tested and set up for my specific motor, rpm range, etc. that might make final adjustments easier. I'm intrigued by your aq311 because of the extra 50hp they are rated at above my aq260. Mine, like many back then, came with the Q-jet carb, which works just fine for me.

the extra HP solely comes from the higher RPM @ 5200 I believe. Everything else should be the same compared with like volvos. I never take it up there anyways.

I really dont want to change to spread bore - thus probably sticking with a holley (or edelbrock). Holley has one specifically jetted for 350 marine engines (80551) - I hope that one only leaves me with finding the right vacuum spring afterwards. I dont have a carb shop nearby.
