I have a boat with an aq151 and 290 sp drive which was equipped with the old Volvo square digital trim gauge part 828731, which has quit working. I have acquired a newer round style gauge part 872498. The official replacement is part 872571 which is just the 872498 with some trim bezels and a short adapter cable. The wire colors on the new gauge are different than the old one. I have located enough schematics to be mostly certain of the pinout to create my own adapter cable.
The problem I have is that in pictures I have found of the cable online it looks like there is some red heat shrink around one of the wires in the adapter (purple one?). I am concerned there may be some sort of inline resistor or other component in there to make the adapter work. Based on the schematics I don’t see a good reason there should be one, but I also don’t want to fry the new gauge. Does anyone out there have one of these adapter cables in an old boat or workshop that could take a look and let me know if it’s just straight through wires, or if there is some inline component added somewhere?
The adapter cable I’m referencing is the one in the attached photo.
Thanks
