Volvo 3.0 gs mwtr engine swap options?

I recently bought a larson boat with a volvo 3.0gs mwtr and sx outdrive. I need to replace the engine due to a water jacket crack. I have been looking online and found some Mercruiser and OMC 3.0 but no volvos.

My question is can I swap out my volvo 3.0 with a Mercruiser or OMC 3.0? Will it be a bolt on swap? or What issues will I need to watch out for?

Its the exact same engine.

So will the long block bolt up just fine to the stern drive? no issues there? (Seems I have read something about different size flywheels or something like that.) Then i will need to switch the dressing over from old engine to new? Does that seem right?

There are slight differences because of the one piece/2 piece seal. What year is your present motor?

The flywheel may be different but you can change that.

It is a 1999 engine, i dont know if it is a 1 or 2 peice seal, nor the size of the fly wheel. Can those pieces be taken from my old engine and bolted onto new engine, or does it get more complicated than that?

Ayuh,.... That's a 1 pc seal,.... you'll need a 1990 or Newer replacement motor,...

I've built truck engines to swap into boats. They're dressed differently but you'll find it's pretty easy. 1990 and newer I second that motion
