I have a 2000 Larson LXI186 with a Volvo 4.3 GI PEFS. I recently bought it used.
It seems to crank longer than I expect it should (4-5 seconds) before starting cold. It will kill 1-2 times before it stays running. After it is warm it starts fine. It also has a slight hesitation off idle when accelerating. Other than that if runs fine including WOT.
I have had this issue with other GM engines in cars. New fuel pressure regulator solved the problem in the cars.
Could this be the problem?
What is the difference between 4.3 GI PEFS (205hp) & 4.3 GI (225hp)?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

When was the last full tuneup, compression test, timing check, fuel filter check and replace, etc. The preventive maintenance stuff?

As far as I know the Gi were all 205 hp, only the GXi went to the 225 hp with the MPI over the 205 Gi TBI. The GXi also had 200 rpm added to the upper WOT range.

Hi Don,

Compression is 175-180 across all 6 cylinders. Not sure when any other maintenance has been done.
I need to buy a maintenance & repair manual. Should I buy a Seloc manual? I also need to replace the u-joints.

Thanks, Doug
