volvo 4.3l penta dies while accellerating

I have a 1999 four winns hourizon 170 with a 4.3l volvo penta outdrive. I was out on the lake today and twice I started the engine, let it idle for a moment(idles ruff at start), put the boat in gear, started accellerating got up to about 3000 rpms and the boat died. Came to a stop, pumped the throttle a few time and it started again(second time took way more tries and pumping to start), reved the engine at 1500 for a few monents before puting in gear and all was fine. not sure if it is the fuel pump, filter, relay... any helpd

Also, I changed the fuel filter today, it was only about a 1/3 full

Have you got a primer pump on it you squeeze with your hand if not id fit one , Then find out if its the fuel pump thats not working ..... Get someone to pump it and see if the engine keeps going they should only keep pumping it till the pump goes hard .. tell them not to force it

Or you could try a gravity feed for the fuel
