My Volvo 454 Chevy oil sump has (about) 4 quarts of gasoline in it, mixed with 6 quarts of oil. Where did it come from, and how do I rectify this problem?

Howdy

If your fuel pump is mounted to the block, then the pump diaphragm has ruptured and is leaking gas into the block. What year and model is the motor?

To reply to the topic, just scroll down to the bottom of the page and there is a window which allows you to type your message in.

Your motor looks like it has the VST system and electric fuel pumps.

Note item 59 in the link above which is a clear hose that should go to the intake. If the VST tank gets to full it will push gas thru this tube and into the intake. The gas can then drain down past the rings and into the oil pan. See if there is any gas in this line

AD has you pointed in the right direction. change the oil/filter, fix the fuel system, run the motor for a bit, then change the oil/filter again.

Thanks AllDodge. I have a FI engine, and I know that I have two (2) fuel pumps (high and low press) of which at least one (1) is electric. I don't know about the other, but I do know that for automotive mechanical fuel pumps that flooding with gas will happen. I just don't understand how 4 QUARTS of gasoline (or more) can get past the rings and into the sump......(or how I didn't blow up the boat)
