I have a 2001 Glastron SX195 with a Volvo Penta 5.0 GL in it. Had it on the water for the second time this year (2) days ago. Ran the boat for about an hour started and stopped the engine several times. After we tied up on a sand bar for about 1/2 hour I started it up again idled back to main channel and it died. Would not restart. Checked carb no fuel. Had to get towed back to launch.

Once I was home I took off fuel line to carb and cranked no fuel coming out. I took off the fuel flter it was dry. Filled it with fuel reinstalled it started and ran fine. I pulled the electrical connection off the fuel pump with engine running, engine died when fuel line was empty. Reinstalled electrical connection on pump boat started back up and ran fine. Have not been back in the water yet.

Is the fuel pump self priming for this engine? If not is there a check valve in the fuel pick up line? Is this a symptom of a failing fuel pump?

I'm not a parts changer. I prefer to troubleshoot the symptoms and replace/repair only what is needed.

Oddly enough while going through the paperwork from the previous owner I found a reciept from the dealer for the same problem when the boat was only a few months old. Unfortunalely the reciept did not show what was done to resolve problem.

Thanks in advance for your input
