Volvo 5.0 GL Overheating

I have a 2005 Chaparral with a 5.0 GL engine. I am not very religious about flushing it out after using in salt water. I have approx. 200 hours on the boat. The engine overheated within a few minutes of going about 1/2 throttle. I backed off to idle and the temperature came down. I took off the water pump to see if the impeller was OK. The impeller is fine but I am going to replace it anyhow. What are other things I should check?

Re: Volvo 5.0 GL Overheating

The risers can clog and restrict overall flow even with a good impeller. I believe this is true for raw water cooled or fresh water cooled systems.

Thanks

I bought the Seloc maintenance book online. Where can I find how to remove and clean or whatever I need to do to the risers?

Even in salt water, you aren't going to plug manifolds and risers with rust in 3 years. Do you run in sand a lot?????

Seloc is a waste of money, get the OEM manuals and save yourself some trouble. But none of them are going to tell you how to clean manifolds and risers. IF they are plugged with rust, you scrap them and buy new.

Thanks for your reply. I am learning I might have wasted $30 on the 3 year online subscription to Seloc.

I have run through some sand and got stuck several months ago and had to work my way out of some low areas. What else should I check?

Thanks

Thanks, I've downloaded the manual and will read it at breakfast.

Doug the pdf Don gave you is just what you need. I made up the pipes and guages from it very easily I almost think with hindsight I wouldnt go out without them.

I also would recommend the proper manuals I had a 3rd party one and then brought the 3 (engine, electrical and sterndrive) using them I can follow volvos recommended schedule of maintenance and also they have excellent troubleshooting guides and everything is easy to follow. They were the best ?70 ive spent on the boat.
