I have a Volvo 5.7 Gi-EF in boat built in 2004, so probably a 2003 model. Is this before or after the exhaust flapper was eliminated from production?

I have a persistent leak from where the exhaust pipe joins the "Y" flange at the transom plate. How are the exhaust pipes sealed to the transom flange? Can the exhaust pipe be disconnected from the transom flange at bottom and the rubbber elbow at the top and re-seal it without pulling the entire engine?

Thanks for being there.

johnmac, briefly no, sorry it is an engine out job. There have been a few photos of badly corroded "Y" flange to transom. As this is below waterline I would be inclined to tackle the job earlier rather than once it has sunk!

Welcome.

I believe there is an o-ring in between the Y pipe and transom mount.
I think you can get to the bottom 2 screws to tighten.
But the top is not gonna happen.
Gotta pull the motor.
Like dycpdiver suggests do it before you have an artificial reef.
Fill out the profile, location. You might be close to someone who can help?

Yes, afraid you'll need to bite the bullet and pull the motor. Had to have it done on my starboard engine last year.

To answer your other question, Volvo quit using exhaust flappers in '99 so no you won't have any.
