Hello everyone,
I've got a new problem that just started a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure the engine is running rich. Here is what I know so far.
1) The transom has black soot on it after a day on the water.
2) The engine idles smooth, but has a shake when on the earmuffs at 1500-2000 rpms.
3) The engine runs smooth when in the water and under load.
4) Twice now I've been coming up on a plane with the engine running around 3000rpm and it will start to lose rpm's and backfired a few times. Come to idle and then slowly accelerate again and no problems.
5) When flushing the engine there will be an oily sheen on the water and a lot of black soot.
I just replaced the fuel pump 3 weeks ago, but the problem started before that. I did take it to a dealer last week but they could find nothing wrong with it. I believe they checked the fuel pressures and did a code scan, but I'm not sure. I did have a leaking raw water pump that was spraying the engine with salt water, so I'm thinking bad sensor or corroded electrical connection of some sort. My service manual makes mention of checking for items that will cause the engine to run rich, but then leaves you hanging by not telling you what those items are.
The engine is a 2005 fuel injected and the serial # is 4012150295.
Anybody have an ideas on where to start troubleshooting this thing?
