Volvo AQ 125 coolent pump

I am aware not to use automotive parts on marine engines but I have a question about the coolent pump on the Volvo 4 cylinder. The housing on the marine engine pump is different than the automotive pump housing. Using a five ton press, I have pressed out the leaky guts to my old AQ 125 pump and pressed out the guts to a new OEM pump for the automotive version of that engine. I pressed in the new impeller and seals into the AQ's pump housing and all went well. I am keeping this "New" AQ-125 pump as a spare in the event the one on the engine ever begins to leak. The bearings and seals appeared to be identical between the two pumps. Does anyone have an opinion on how this might fare?

The automotive "guts" should work fine. That pump is pushing antifreeze, not seawater so it's operating exactly like it would in your grandmother's Volvo 240 wagon, unless she lets Ted Kennedy drive or something...

Thanks for the reply. Cost and bearing life at WOT was my main concern. The AQ 125 pump was between $400 and $600 depending on the source. Tha OEM Volvo Automotive pump was about $135 and some change. I could have gotten an aftermarket automotive pump for less but I went OEM. I have a parts engine for the boat that had a known leaky pump and thats the one I gutted for the change out. The one on the boat's AQ is still performing as it should. The AQ 125 is a little underpowered for for our 1983 19' Bayliner Capri cabin but it is a simple and tough little motor. I was suprised how easy it is on gas and simple to tune. Glad I didn't throw away my dwell meter and tach kit. Ran the doo doo out of it this summer and never missed a beat.

Those little engines are great. Really cheap and easy to rebuild. I put new bearings and rings in one for very little money a few years ago. Putting one back in a boat is about a 30 minute job too.
