Volvo AQ125 270 water coming in

I just purchased a used 1989 bayliner capri with a volvo aq125. The previous owner had changed the bellows and looks like very recently. I set the boat in the water and by the time I get out of the vehicle and look into the motor there is a couple inches of water in there. This is my first boat so I have been learning quickly but from what I have read it sounds as if it could be my exhaust y pipe. I am wondering how to test this on shore? Also, when I pulled the boat out of the water, water came pouring out of the bottom of the transom shield. Also, would that be normal?

Welcome to Iboats.

With the boat dry on the trailer, you could try putting water into the bilge and see if you can see in leaking out.

Are you sure its an '89?

Put the boat back in the water, on the trailer, and get back there with a flashlight and a mirror and look, and listen for where the water is coming in from. If you can't get in there enough to see, don't forget about the small digital cameras, I've found more than one leak using a camera.

Thanks for the responses guys. Firstly, yes it is an 89. As for the water coming out of the bilge, that was no problem. It was certainly coming out the bottom of the transom shield. I figured the only way would be to set it back in the water but thought I may enquire to some fancy ideas lol.:) Again, thanks for the responses.

It was certainly coming out the bottom of the transom shield.

Was it coming out of the transom shield itself, or where the transom shield meets the transom of the boat. Makes a big difference.
