Volvo AQ125A Popping

I have a 1983 Bayliner Capri 19' with the Volvo AQ125a engine. The engine will start and idle really good. I can go at slow speeds just fine with no problems either. When I give the engine full throttle it will start to speed up and the RPM's will drop and the engine will start making a popping noise. It almost sounds like the engine wants to die but doesn't. I can then take it back down to a slower speed and it will run fine. If I try to put it back up to full throttle it will happen again. Any help would be great.

sounds like bad gas or a dirty fuel filter,ETOH raises hell in these older engines.
I have the same boat, its mostly great running and dependable boat.

I have the aq131a in my 17 foot baretta and mine broke a spring in the distributer advance and would idle fine but would not run under load at all.
