Volvo AQ125A to Mercruiser?

I was recently given a Bayliner Cuddy with a seized Volvo Penta AQ125A self-contained motor w/270 Volvo outdrive. Motor is gone, good for parts but not much else. This same person has a Mercruiser 130 4 cylinder he'll sell to me that runs, for $300.00. My question is: Can I simply bolt this in place of the Penta, or do I also need the gimble and the other outdrive and ... ? Boat and trailer are in very good shape and being retired and disabled I have plenty of time on my hands to play with this project.

Ayuh,... It's gotta be ALL Mercruiser, or ALL Volvo...

You should just go with another similar volvo penta. Find one used. You need to stay with a 4 banger or else change the gear ratio on the outdrive as well (This is not an easy job, its easier to change outdrives). Do you have the old motor? There are valuable parts on the old motor.

If you want to go mercruiser, you'll need to rebuild the transom as the cutout would be smaller.
