Volvo AQ125B with Solex carb- how does the accelerator pump hook to the carb base?

Hi-
I recently had the head rebuilt on my AQ125B, and I don't think the guy hooked the Solex carb back up correctly. Specifically, the pushrod, which moves with the throttle, that sticks through a hole at the base of arm on the accelerator pump. The pushrod just slides right through when you move the thottle. What I'm left with is one long black nut on the outside, which doesn't do anything (it just lets the springloaded arm slide back and forth through the accelerator pump arm...) Is that right? How is supposed to attach to the arm on the accelerator pump?

I've looked at the diagrams on the volvo penta site, but I can't find what I'm looking for, though the Pushrod is part 40 here: http://www.volvopentastore.com/Carb...*****.380279744--store_id.366--view_id.786367

Here's what I'm looking at:

Thanks for any advice- (I just got laid off- trying to do this myself to save money).

It doesn't look like there's enough tension on the spring. As the throttle is increased, the arm should move outward allowing the spring to release energy and press the lower portion of the accel pump arm outward. The upper portion of the arm then pushes inward on the diaphram button (and thus the diaphram) and pressurizes the accel pump chamber causing gas to squirt out the candycane (nozzle, part #8) on the top of the carb venturi.

Make sure there is a small washer between the spring and the inner side of the rod so the spring is compressed when the nut is tightened. The reason I mention the washer is that in the picture, it looks like the nut on the rod is in about the right position. You may need to tighten the nut to put tension on the spring but make sure the small washer is there.

When you hit the throttle, the arm on the accelerator pump will move about 1/8 to a 1/4 inch before the diaphragm bottoms out and the rod then slides through the hole and compresses the spring. This will hold the arm in position until you release the throttle and then hit it again. It looks right to me, except I had to adjust mine further out to engage the accel pump earlier.

The throttle linkage in the shot shows the spring on top of the linkage, as mine was. I think it belongs inbetween the linkage and the adjustment screw so that it opperates as a return spring, closing the throttle plate. Mine was ontop as well and would not return to idle, I could only find a picture of the linkage for the twin carb setup in the manual, and the spring in below. Does anybody know which way it is actually supposed to be?

Wow- that's exactly what I needed to know. I was having some starting problems, and noticed that I didn't see gas being squirted from the candycane when I pumped the accelerator- seems like I had in the past, which is how I got to this question. The washer is now on the OUTSIDE, which is wrong by what you're saying. Maybe that's why it looks like the pushrod just pushes past/through the lower arm. But I can tighten the black nut all the way past the threads, and it still doesn't touch the arm at rest sometimes. (And that silver nut was one that I just put on there, I'll take it off I guess.

I'm thinking I need to take a look and see why that spring isn't snug against the arm on the inside...
Thanks- any further comments welcome.

Washer sits against the detent on the end closest to the inside. Spring butts up against the washer ;).

I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow. It is working great now, so it may be of help.

PS. I have a 1985 bayliner capri bowrunner with an aq125a and 270 outdrive.
