Volvo aq130 / 270T Revving but no thrust

I have the AQ 130/270T. Its been running great. Yesterday while fishing the Missouri river we were cruising at about 30 mph @ 5100 RPMs when the engine just revved real fast like there was no prop im guessing it would sound. Throttld down and was ok for a while. Then later same thing only it didnt go away. Now i have no reverse and can only go forward at about 3 MPH at tops 2000 rpms before it sounds like its over reving. Not fun when on the river with a current too strong for that. I got it off the water and only visible thing i noticed was a gap where the prop is looking like something was missing. im thinking its behing the prop. The zinc anode i belive it is. I dont know what the purpose of that is yet but if that was missing could it result in this problem or is it for sure a gear issue before i go ripping it apart? Thank you.

Sounds like the rubber hub in the prop failed. Just take your prop off and take it to your local prop shop and have them replace it.

ok i have the prop off but i wasnt aware it had anything rubber in it. ah yes im seeing it now. It looks pretty worn and grooved. Only looks to be 16th of an inch thick now.

Ok it looks like your expertise is correct. The rubber as i examined it and thought it through has allowed the shaft inside the prop to slide forward a half inch. Thats where the gap i was seeing was from. Im going to test the outdrive without the prop to make sure its spinning up good and that it was only the prop. Thank you.

Call around to see what it's going to cost to have a new hub installed. Might be the same or less for a new Solas prop from iboats.
