I just had a quick question... Not really knowing since i have never powered up this engine yet.
Does the AQ130D require some sort of Governor or Rev Limiter?
Basically What tells the engine that when you get to say for example 8000 rpms, what tells your engine "EEEEEH NO MORE" and it stops you from being able to go over 8000 rpms in that instance...
Is it just throttle control? the throttle cables are adjusted so that when you go the furthest distance allowed by your controller , the controller mechanically stops the throttle from going any higher? Please let me know thank you beforehand.

No such device like you're talking about. WOT is listed at 5100 with a note that the engine may reach 5300 rpm in a small boat.

Mine will sometimes get to 5300 with only 2 onboard, low fuel, a tailwind, and not much of anything else to add weight. If the engine is in good shape and the boat in decent condition (normal weight), your prop size will determine the final WOT.

Yes i understand the Wot but i mean what actually sets the limit of 5100-5300 is it the throttle cable, or the throttle controller itself. Sorry to be so blunt but do you understand my question?

On any carbureator, the linkage is set up so that once the butterflie(s) are fully open, the don't go past that. Any further and you would be closing them. Wide open is just that, the main air control valve (butterfly valve) is wide open.

When you have that condition, that's all the engine will do.

The prop is what prevents the engine from excessive rpm. If you are getting over 5100 rpm, then you need to change props to a steeper pitch that prevents it going over 5100.
In neutral, nothing prevents over revving except your right hand on the throttle lever.

Might want to look at some of the information over in the Prop forum.

Re: Volvo AQ130D Rev Limit

Ok. Thanks Pirate! and Don thank you. I will go to prop section and do some reasearch. Oh i just double checked volvopentastore.com i see i was looking at AQ115A, AQ115B engine electrical System and instruments breakdown. They have a Governor on there.
But for the AQ130D engine its a Charger Relay Bracket that sort of looks similar to the governor on the other engines.

I guess my next question would be, My engine when i got it did not come with this Charger Relay Bracket.. Will I need one?

All that is, is a voltage regulator.
If your alternator has an internal regulator as most modern alternators do, you don't have one or need one.

Re: Volvo AQ130D Rev Limit

you are talking about a rev limiter, older points style distributors dont have one... you can get an pertronix kit and an aftermarket rev limiter but its pointless on these motors... just dont rev in neutral over 3-4K, like don said the prop will control it...

Re: Volvo AQ130D Rev Limit

His engine DID NOT and does not have a rev limiter, read his original post, he was looking at the wrong engine, I also explained what he was looking at in the parts diagram, which had nothing to do with a rev limiter or the ignition system in general.
