What is the best way to drain the engine oil on the inboard without creating a huge mess? I need to drain for the first time since buying last fall. Is it possible to install a ball valve in the drain to hook a tube to and run it out the drain plug hole? And when the season is over do you store with new or waite till spring. TIA

Best way is through the dipstick. Buy a drill pump, 12V pump, or a manual transfer pump and run the engine so the contaminants are suspended and pump it out. Change the filter and refill. I'd rather change my boat oil than my truck believe it or not, and I don't even have to jack my truck up to do it :). Most people do it as part of their winterization.

There is this type of arrangement: http://www.iboats.com/Oil-Drain-Hose-ITT-Jabsco/dm/*******.120568132--**********.941780612--view_id.70825

Some say to snake it out the drain plug for gravity drain and some say to hook your drain pump up to it. Whatever works best for you. For those of us who haven't gone that route, doubled up trash bags under the drain plug are a reasonable alternative. Be careful when removing the bag that it doesn't get caught on something and ruin all your careful plans! When removing the oil filter, it's best to slip a plastic bag behind the oil cooler to minimize spillage there also. For most of us, it's a matter of trial and error with a few "damnit's" thrown in.
