Volvo AQ170b

I just go a boat ( best price FREE) when I turn the key to start, the starter turns the motor over but will not disengage. It will not disengage unless I disconnect the battery.

I changed out the ignition switch but same thing.

Any Ideas will help

Probably a bad starter. Pull it and see if the starter bendix is all rusty. If it is, I would bet you have water getting into the flywheel housing through the primary drive shaft bearing/s. Possibly due to defective bellows.

PS Free boats are normally the most expensive boats you can own. They are usually free for a reason, and the 170 is a very expensive engine to get parts for.
