Hey everyone, I have a question I was hoping to get some help on . I recently bought a 2007 caravelle interceptor 192 with a 5.0 gxi Volvo engine . I was trying to track down a chirping noise from the engine today . I took the belt off and checked all the pulleys , I noticed the fresh water pump (not the raw water ) made a bunch of noise when I spun it and there is also some movement on the shaft is it time to replace it ? The boat runs at about 150f all day. Thanks for any help

brian, from the information that you provided, I would say that it is your circulation pump. I'm assuming that all the other pulleys and accessories that run off the belt aren't making any noise when you try to turn them, right?

Water pump should not make any noise and the shaft should not move.

My circulating pump went after 35 hours, threw salt water all round the engine bay. Volvo supplied a replacement which I fitted. It is still there 16 years later.

How loud is the chirping? On our 06 4.3 the power steering pulley is not in line with the rest of the pulleys. The new updated volvo belt has stopped the squeaking for now but rubber dust is building up as it did before. Ive put several washers behind the top mount of the power steering pulley to help get it inline but its still off some.

This may not be your issue.

I had a circulation pump fail once, granted it had 1000 hrs on it but the hub of the impeller fatigued and broke off inside the pump. I wonder if the Chris is flexing of same area. Regardless the pump should be silent when spun and no play in shaft. Replace it , they aren't too expensive.
