I have a 200hp turbo Volvo Penta diesel and I have just sprung a leak in the sea water pump. It seems to be leaking from the shaft. The leak is from behind the impellar housing. Does anyone know if there is a seal in there or something? Do they normally wear out eventually? Just wanted to get some input before I go taking things apart. Thanks.

What's the full model number of your motor.

Yes there are seals in that pump, and like any seal on anything, they do wear out. It is 20 years old.

Thanks, do you know if they make seal replacement kits for the water pump. I'm sure there are some other things that should be replaced too such as the impellar cover gasket.
