volvo diesel

I have a 4cyl volvo diesel duo prop on a 21 planing hull. What is the max rpm I should run this at for cruising? I have been told I can rev it out but I find that hard to believe. Any suggestions?

usually around 3700 - 3900 WOT but a model and year would help to nail down exact specs.
