Volvo DPS-A leg trim sender issue

Hi all, I would be really grateful for some help.

I know that the trim sender on the volvo stern drives are a pain but we have some very strange things going on. The Leg is a DPS-A, trim sender has 3 wires to a digital EVC display. The leg is all the way down and the engine will not start as it states the Trim is too high. It gives me a trim angle of 158 degrees. When I press the trim up or down, the trim angle does not change but the leg moves.

Does anyone have any information on what I should look at, I took the sender off and moved it by hand to see if the angle changes, but no change. The sender unit was replaced 2.5 months ago by a technician in Fort Lauderdale, but I am now in the Caribbean.

Any words of wisdom appreciated.

Many thanks

Mark

Not sure if yours is exactly like mine or not but I can recalibrate my gauge by holding a couple buttons on the all in one display unit on my dash. You might see if yours is similar. If not, despite being new, you may have to replace the unit again. I have found them to be very un dependable.

How involved is your boat set up with the EVC system? (Electronic Vessel Control) Does you EVC control system have the push button starting and trim features such as most of these EVC items in the following link, http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...+pnta+EVC+.TRS0&_nkw=Volvo+pnta+EVC+&_sacat=0
Do you use this type of control too,

I took the sender off and moved it by hand to see if the angle changes, but no change.
Using a multimeter in the ohms range setting and the info found on page 193 and 194, you'll want to at least try testing the sending unit to see if you can obtain an ohms reading of 11.1 - 11.3 and keep within a smooth ohms range around that number by hand.... http://boatinfo.no/lib/volvo/manuals/sx-a_dps-a_drive.html#/196

Try searching online for a PDF titled ( MC EVC Installation Procedure, Electronic Vessel Control ...DPS-A ) by marine parts express .com/express/pdf/POSTER D3 EVC.....It may help a little as it talks about
1. The procedure to enter the access code:
2. Example how to carry out manual settings * of the Power trim Recommended trim limits of the SX and DPS drive:

Being the sending unit is new, you may want to try contacting Volvo to see if they'd cover the part under a warranty and also try to double check that a failed trim sending unit would keep the engine from starting. http://www.volvopenta.com/volvopenta/na/en-us/applications/contact_us/pages/contact_us.aspx

Thank you all, we will be working on the boat today.

We do have the same EVC control unit, however we dont have push button start, old school with a key start.

I will keep you updated,

Thanks all,
