Replacing Impeller today
Manual calls for "Volvo Penta grease p/n 828250 to be applied on a new O ring before installing.

Don't have any. Can I substitute anything else?

Is this just to help it fit in or *** Is this grease super important? *** i.e if not used, then it may leak and water will enter the engine? Which is a truly bad thing.

Ky jelly works

Olive oil works

The grease is to allow the o-ring to properly flow into the groove and not tear

Great suggesions, wish I had them!
I do have:
hand cream- glycerine based
margarine (seriously?)
trailer bearing grease...

And big thanks for letting me know what it's for!

How about hand diswashing soap?

It's early season at the cottage, not fully stocked. Yes I miss the olive oil myself..
And the hand cream... I actually brought it here because it was glycerine based which is what Volvo Penta specified for lubricating the impeller. Just not sure if it was a good idea as I havn't seen anyone else mention it....

Impeller changed, half a fin missing (narrow piece- 3/8 strip - top half of a fin). Pulled hoses... no sign of it.... tried the dish soap.
