2003 volvopenta 5.7 Gxi-C running fine, suddenly stopped when idling. Battery, fuel pump OK. Absolutely NOTHING when turn ignition key, completely dead. Evaluated kill switch, seemed OK. Took apart throttle unit, thinking may not be back in neutral, nothing there. Went behind dash board and jiggled ignition switch, and boat started instantly. Have you seen these switches go bad? could it be something else connected to the switch that just needed time to cool? Coil?
So I get back to the marina excited the boat is running well, and now the trim won't work. Both the throttle handle and the unit it connects to were "hanging by their wires" as I struggled to put it back together in rough seas. So prob a loose wire somewhere there now, but don't see anything. Ended up hot wiring directly to the trim motor to get it up, but now gotta trouble shoot that too. Any thoughts? can't see any obvious loose wires, could a relay or other part/issue be affected by my man handling the throttle handle/linkage?
lastly, I'm sure most of you know this, but for those who don't: you can bypass the trim switch by tapping directly into coupling above trim motor. blue [sky] for up, green [grass] for down. Just connect the pos lead of battery to blue and neg to green to go up, and visa versa.
