Hi All - Newbe here! I'm looking to buy a 2002 Doral 330SE with 5.7s right between Mobile and Pensacola and hope to find a mechanic in the area to look over the engines and drives. I have all the service records and looks pretty impressive as the owner pretty much maintained it with an open checkbook. It was also serviced and with full maintenance performed just last month but still, need to confirm condition especially since I may take it to Tampa by water. There's also concern with one of the drives as I've been told there was water in one of the drives but I've asked for clarification on this as they said it wasn't a big deal so I'm thinking maybe I mis-heard that it was one of the drives instead of something that truly wasn't a big deal (I know that would be a big deal). One of the service items was a recently broken hose clamp so maybe I just didn't hear right.
A little history is the current owner bought it in 2010 and had it surveyed and clearly the seller at the time did not maintain the boat (either at all or very well) but the good side is the service receipt basically stated that everything on the survey was repaired and at a price tag of $13k. Since then the boat wasn't used a lot and seems like most issues that were fixed in the past three years were from not being used (frozen starter...). I'm not positive but think/hope that it's been in high & dry so if true, that seems good. I have a good feeling that the current seller told the broker/marina to simply go through the boat and fix any issues and I would assume that means they looked it over pretty good just a month or so ago.
So any and all input would be HUGELY appreciated. Also would be appreciated if have thoughts and referrals on a survey. I'm pretty knowledgable and very mechanically inclined. It seems there were hull issues in the early 2000s but I guess they did some big changes in 2003 and that's when they had a recall... Other than that, I don't know what more could have gone catastrophically wrong since the last survey and considering that either way I want to have the engines and drives checked out.
Thanks!
David
PS. I appologize up front as I may be slow to respond to any questions since I'm traveling for biz right now.
