Volvo Penta 14hp O/B Impellor...HELP!!!!!

Hi. Really struggling here.

Bought the engine (exc. cond) as a runner but not pumping water. I've stripped down the pump casing and replaced the impellors (2) two rotary shaft seal and the gaskets. STILL won't pump water.

I've checked the obvious....no obstructions on the inlet side & the pipe/water jacket on the delivery side seem clear. Although I've not pressure tested the block, the engine starts 1st time so I imagine there are no cracks.

The impellor casing comes in two identical halves with an impellor in each. One for the cooling system and one which goes to a bilge pump, (not connected).

Does anyone have any experience on these engines. I'm thinkling maybe it's been messed with in the past and not assembled correctly. In particular, there is a stainless plate/gasket that seperates the two pump casings. This has only one hole drilled trhough for water to pass and I'm thinking maybe it should have two? Just a guess but any help would be appreciated. I've been on this on and off now for months and I'm supposed to be using the boat/engine on hols next week!

sounds like you could use a manual. try this link : http://www.volvo.com/volvopenta/se/sv-se/marineengines/operators_manual/operators_manual.htm.
if you enter the serial number from your motor you MAY be able to download it for free. the sites in swedish but you should be able to puzzle it out. if you have problems post the serial and a description of the motor and i'll try to fix one for you.

Hi Griz. Thanks very much for your post. I've checked out that website and the engine doesn't seem to be listed. It's a Volvo Penta 140 (14hp) outboard, late 1970 early1980 I think. Serial number 216117434. Two cylinder. Is that any help to you?
