took boat to the lake for the first time of the year. Fired up easily and ran better than it ever has. It was running about 5100 WOT and idling beautiful. After 45 minutes of playing we parked and sat under a tree. 30 minutes later it won't fire. There's fuel but no spark. No arc coming from coil but power when key is in going to coil. I'm think of switching to HOTSPARK electronic ignition. Has anyone done this? Is it easy.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... Probably the points are glazed over,.... Clean 'em, or better yet replace 'em,.....

There's a few electronic conversions, 'n they all work,...

Ok thanks! We got her running... Coil went out. I just happened to reach back and feel it after a couple of cranks and it was extremely hot. I am buying the conversion kit though. Thanks for the help

Make sure you get the correct coil for this engine. I believe it needs to be at least 3 ohm resistance unless you use an external resistor.
This is particular important with electronic ignition as you otherwise can burn out the electronics.

I have used both Pertronix and Hot Spark. Both works fine for me - I felt that the Pertronix instructions were better but the hot spark is less expensive.

Just FYI there is no such thing as a 2.1L AQ125B engine.
The AQ125A is a 2.1L while the AQ125B is 2.3L. This will help you when you look for parts for the engine.
You can find many of the items by looking up the 1985 Volvo 240 or 244. This can save you a bunch of money for the items that do not need to be special marine parts.
My Bayliner 1950 Cuddy has the same B engine but the sticker on the boat says 2.1L. I talked with a dealer once that remembered that the change was not directly tied to a model year change so the stickers and the engine does not always match.
