Volvo Penta 225D Engine Problems

I am thinking of purchasing a 1979 Drifter House boat but found the engine block cracked and the outdrive will not lock out when put in reverse. It wants to kick up. I was wondering what a rough estimate would be to replace the 225D block and what could be wrong with the out drive and how much would that cost to repair. Keep in mind that I am no mechanic.

Took the boat out for a spin and the engine ran and sounded good. No noticable problems other than the cracked block.
