Volvo Penta 260A with 290 outdrive

Hi,

I blew the Primary Drive Shaft bearing on my last trip. Everything I have read is that i can replace the bearing, snap rings, seal, etc. without pulling the motor. Most info out there is that the two-bearing drive shafts - the motor has to be pulled. If it is a one bearing drive shaft, I can fix from the rear of the boat.

I have pulled the outdrive, and I was able to pull the PDS right out the back of the boat. Still have to pull one Snap ring that is trapping the outer race of whats left of the bearing.

Can anyone point me in the direction of how to replace seals, bearings, snap rings and drive shaft for this set up.

Most likely you will need to pull the motor as the V8s have the 2 bearing PDS.

Thank you..Amazingly, I have discovered my the PDS has been pulled before, and was installed with only one bearing. I have had the boat for 14 years, and had absolutely no problem with power or efficiency until the bearing finally blew.
