If you're talking about the main bearings in the upper gearbox, then you just don't hear of too many people replacing those. The gearbox is pretty robust so bearing damage would indicate something else pretty severe going on. If the bearings are shot, it's a good bet there's babbit material and metal filings in other areas that could have caused more damage. Might be a better idea to just look for a used gearbox instead of spending the money to rebuild what may be a severely damaged unit that's reached the end of it's life,
In either case, there are used components on ebay quite often. Some of the local boat shops may have some used parts and pieces out back and may even steer you to where you can find what you need locally. Doesn't hurt to ask.
