A friend using my boat damaged the prop by hitting it on concrete boat ramp. Also, on the top of lower unit where u check gear case oil , the dipstick amd approx. 3 inches around that was broken by a gear being pushed up. It will push back down to where the cover plate and 4 bolts with go together. What is supposed to keep that gear from coming back up as when I manually spin the prop , it will raise up about an inch. Is something broke or undone somewhere lower in the unit? Thanks. Dave

Its hard to say what, but something is definitely broken. You'll need to pull the upper gear box at a minimum and see what's what. It would also help if can post some pics.
