In years past, I have had trouble restarting the boat after the engine is already warm. When I put the boat in idle on a warm engine, the idle was high. I would put it in neutral and rev the engine, that brought the idle back down. I took it to a shop where they performed a tune up and checked the carburetor. They told me they pulled the needle and checked something else, all appeared fine. After the tune up, I dropped the boat in the water (98 Glastron), it started right up and idled fine. However a new problem developed. As I put it in drive and pushed the accelerator forward, at about 1/4 open, the boat bogged down. However as soon as I pushed the accelerator past that, the boat picked up speed and RPM as usual. After running it around for a while, I went back to idle to shut it off. The idle was extremely low and rough (sometimes would diesel at shut off). I adjusted the idle speed which appeared to help. When I went to restart it, same old problem. Would not restart. Crank after crank, seems like it got worse. I could see gas in the water near the back of the boat. I would let it sit, and try again. No start. I finally put it in neutral and opened the throttle full. Took a few cranks, but would eventually start. Towards the end of our trip, seemed like it was getting harder to start with an open throttle. On the plus side, once the boat started, it ran GREAT. Still had the hick-up at a 1/4 throttle, but just had to push through it.
I believe it is the carburetor because of the flooding on start, the hick-up at 1/4 throttle, and sometimes it would "diesel" after engine shut off. If you agree, should I rebuild or buy new? Per the symptoms, is there anything else I should look at. Thanks for all the help!
